Week 3, Day 1, Bonus Activity: Snail Mail

For this activity, imagine that you are living in New Zealand in the 1950s. Use Google Draw* to design the front of a postcard that you could send to a friend. Try to include elements of Kiwiana in your design (e.g. Pohutukawa trees, Hokey Pokey ice cream, etc). Post a copy of your postcard picture to your blog. Be sure to describe what you have drawn on your blog beneath the picture.

On my postcard i have put a picture of a native New Zealand bird called a Tuke (Rock wren). I also put some New Zealand foods, pineapple lumps and marmite. There is a kiwi holding the New Zealand flag. A popular toy in New Zealand buzzy bee and lastly Aotearoa in the middle.

  1. Kia ora Toe'umu,

Wow, what a creative postcard you have designed. I really love how you have shared a number of things that represent New Zealand. I really love how you have included the tuke in your design. What inspired you to include this specific bird? I find it awesome how New Zealand use pineapple lumps and marmite as symbols of our New Zealand culture. What else do you think we use to represent our country?

That you for creating an awesome postcard.

    Have a wonderful day,
    Megan :)
